Buying a Used Bass Guitar Tips
& Tricks:
What type of used bass guitar do you
recommend for around $500? When I go to musiciansfreind , what bass
guitars should I test out?
I don't think you can go wrong with a Fender in that
price range. A jazz bass will be a bit more suited to a guitar player as
the neck is thinner than the P-Bass.
I've had my used fender Mexican P-Bass (~$300) for about 8 years and have
beaten the living tar out of it. It's done hundreds of gigs and traveled
nearly 30,000 miles with all original hardware and electronics. And yet, I
still prefer it's action and playability over many basses I pick up at the
stores. Although I must admit a fret job is in it's near future from the
heavy use, but that's nothing any bass would need well into a hard life.
Instead of the Mexi used Jazz Bass I'd shoot for a used
American Series fender bass guitar.
Better built & engineered aprox $500 everywhere.
As for the Jazz Vs. the Precision-Bass. The Jazz string spacing is tighter
& it has two single coil pickups which both have to be turned up full to
cancel any computer noise. Adjust them in any other way & you will get a
lot of 60 cycle hum through your signal chain.
As for the P-Bass, it has a fuller bodied tone thanks to the humbucking P-
pickup, better string spacing as well, & no Computer noise interference
due to that fact that it's always humbucking (one Volume knob).
All user preferences I know, but I guess though you should at least be
aware of the differences.
As for Bass pre amplification before tracking to disk, many bass players &
recording engineers would agree that you can't go wrong with the SANS Amp
Bass Driver DI.
