The Jaguars started a new era with an old name as their new head coach.

Back in 2003, former owner Wayne Weaver picked Jack Del Rio as the coach over Mike Mularkey, then the offensive coordinator in Pittsburgh.

This time, under new owner Shad Khan and general manager Gene Smith, about to finish his fourth year, they picked Mularkey even though his career has hit some speed bumps in the last decade.

He was 14-18 in two years as a head coach in Buffalo and then quit after going 5-11 in the 2005 season with J.P. Losman at quarterback. That led to general manager Tom Donahoe getting fired and Marv Levy taking over as the team's chief executive.

Mularkey decided to quit even though he knew he might never get another chance.
